Functional Capacity Exams
At LHMPTI, we’re committed to helping individuals, employers, case managers, and healthcare providers make informed decisions about work readiness and functional abilities following injury or illness. Our Functional Capacity Exams (FCEs), offered at select LHMPTI clinics, provide comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations that objectively measure an individual’s physical capabilities in relation to the demands of their job.
What is a Functional Capacity Exam?
A Functional Capacity Exam (FCE) is a detailed, standardized evaluation that assesses an individual’s physical strength, flexibility, endurance, and functional abilities required to perform specific work-related tasks. These assessments are designed to answer key questions such as:

- What physical limitations should be considered for modified or alternative work?
- Is the person capable of sustaining work over a typical workday or workweek?
- What accommodations, if any, are needed for a successful return to work?

Our FCEs are administered by experienced licensed physical therapists trained in functional testing.
