That depends. Each state has laws that govern access to physical therapy services. Your insurance may also have rules regarding referrals for therapy. Typically, our physical therapists will be able to provide a screen or an evaluation without a physician referral but may need to work with your physician to provide treatment.  Please contact your local LHMPTI clinic and our team will help to navigate the referral process, if one is needed.

The cost of physical therapy depends on your insurance plan and benefit package. You may have out-of-pocket expenses related to your insurance plan’s copay, coinsurance, or deductible. Please contact your local LHMPTI clinic and our team will be happy to verify your insurance benefits and determine your out-of-pocket responsibility to avoid any unanticipated expenses. 

During your initial visit, you will undergo a comprehensive evaluation by one of our skilled physical therapists. They will assess your condition, review your medical history, and discuss your goals and concerns. Based on this assessment, we will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Your program will focus on helping you achieve your goals and empowering you to get back to doing the things you love at home, at work, and in your community.  

The duration of each session can vary depending on your condition and treatment plan. Our outpatient physical therapy sessions typically last 60-75 minutes, but your therapist will determine the appropriate duration for your sessions based on your individual needs. 

The number of sessions required depends on several factors, including the nature and severity of your condition, your goals, and your progress throughout treatment. Your therapist will discuss and establish a treatment plan with you, including the anticipated number of sessions. It’s important to attend all scheduled sessions to maximize the effectiveness of your therapy, allowing you to achieve your goals efficiently and in the expected timeframe. 

Physical therapy typically has the goal of reducing pain and improving your overall well-being. While certain therapeutic techniques and exercises may cause discomfort initially, your therapist will closely monitor your progress and adjust your treatment accordingly. They will provide guidance on managing any temporary discomfort you may experience throughout your care.

Your treatment plan will be tailored to address your specific goals and challenges, ensuring you receive the best possible care.

We recommended that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows for ease of movement. For your safety, please do not wear open-toe shoes, sandals, or flip flops.  Depending on your condition, your therapist may request that you bring specific clothing, such as athletic shoes or workout attire. They will provide you with any additional instructions regarding attire during your initial evaluation. 

Yes, home exercise programs are often a part of outpatient physical therapy. Your therapist will provide you with instructions on exercises and activities that you can safely perform at home to complement your in-clinic treatment. Your therapist may also stay in contact and monitor your home exercise program between visits.  Consistently performing your home exercises can help accelerate your progress and improve outcomes.
