Do I need a referral from a doctor to receive outpatient physical therapy?

That depends. Each state has laws that govern access to physical therapy services. Your insurance may also have rules regarding referrals for therapy. Typically, our physical therapists will be able to provide a screen or an evaluation without a physician referral but may need to work with your physician to provide treatment.  Please contact your local LHMPTI clinic and our team will help to navigate the referral process, if one is needed.
